Merative Ideas Portal

Shape the future of Merative!

We invite you to shape the future of Merative, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the Merative team to refine your idea

Help Merative prioritize your ideas and requests

The Merative team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at Merative works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at Merative, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Support for NVDA & ChromeVox as screen reader in Curam and responsive UA

This enhancement request for support and certification of NVDA & ChromeVox as supported screen reader in Curam and Responsive UA.

Business Justification

1. A good percentage of MSD's NZ clients use NVDA as screen reader.

We can see that NVDA is roughly as popular as JAWS. JAWS costs around $2000 whereas NVDA is totally free.

JAWS can be funded by Blind Low Vision NZ in New Zealand, but the process to get it funded is quite annoying.

One factor to take into account, is that many public computers, such as libraries, have NVDA installed – meaning this is the screen reader that is likely to be used by screen reader users who cannot afford a computer (likely for those in the welfare system).

The best thing we have is the WebAIM Screen Reader Survey.

Here is the latest one: https://webaim.org/projects/screenreadersurvey9/

Here is the stats for “commonly used desktop screen readers”: <See attached screenshot- commonly used desktop screen readers.png)

2. Another factor to take into account, is that MSD’s Service Centre Kiosks, run ChromeOS, which uses “ChromeVox” as its screen reader.

    Hi Nimesh,

We have reviewed your enhancement suggestion.

Social Program Management considers accessibility throughout the product lifecycle from planning and design through development and testing. Accessibility is assessed against success criteria of published standards and requirements and SPM is compliant with the following:
    · Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.1 (level A&AA)
    · Revised Section 508 standards
    · EN 301 549 requirements

Our compliance is agnostic of specific tools and technologies (such as specific browsers , screen readers etc.) – as long as the tools and technologies used by our clients are compliant with the same standards, users will have a good experience.

Multiple approaches are used in SPM’s accessibility verification testing (AVT) process including automated test tools, manual tests and screen reader tests. We conduct screen reader tests to confirm accessibility compliance when using an established assistive technology. To do this testing, we use Edge Chromium and JAWS 2020 and that is why these technologies are considered certified. Other assistive technologies and browsers that comply with the same standards are expected to provide SPM users with a good experience.

If customers encounter issues with non-certified browsers or accessibility tools, that are compliant with the same guidelines and standards adhered to by SPM, a defect may be submitted with details regarding where and how SPM fails the accessibility guidelines and our support team will investigate.

For the above reasons, SPM will not be certifying NVDA or ChromeVox.

We do not intend to incorporate this capability into our product as it does not align with our product strategy. We are therefore closing this request and do not plan to take any further action.

Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas with us. Although we cannot pursue all the submitted suggestions, we are committed to involving our users in building our product roadmap and appreciate your ideas.

    Regards,
Sheryl Brenton, SPM Product Management Team
