Merative Ideas Portal

Shape the future of Merative!

We invite you to shape the future of Merative, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the Merative team to refine your idea

Help Merative prioritize your ideas and requests

The Merative team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at Merative works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at Merative, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Remove all client desktop software dependencies for word document editing

  • Current solution (Chrome) uses Chrome Extension, Word Bridge, Java, Java applet, and MS Word to provide users a way to edit documents

  • Problems:

    • The feature has several dependencies on client desktop configuration. Supporting this feature in IE with Java + Java applet + MS word dependency has been a nightmare with so many flavors of issues (10+ combinations) affecting the users. The issues never really go away fully because we have 10k+ users and there are always new users or new devices at play.

      • The problems will likely multiply with introduction of extension and word bridge (no real logs are generated for failure scenarios)

      • Our users use this feature 10k+ times on a daily basis and it is a mission critical feature for us. Reliability of this feature is critical

    • Dependencies on 3rd parties like Google WebStore

  • Recommendation

    • Implement the feature in such a way that there are no custom software required to be installed in user’s desktop

      • No extension, no bridge, no java, no desktop software besides the vanilla browser component

    • Few years ago, we did a POC with MS Office Online Server (a backend/server side component) such that user’s were able to work on documents that are stored as part of Curam backend. We had also inquired with Microsoft and I could be wrong but at that time it appeared that there are no additional licensing costs if all users have MS Office license (this was before Office 365 days)

      • The poc actually worked well but we weren’t fully convinced of the productivity impact at that time (2015/16 I think). Now that the MS Word features are so much more powerful in the browser and Office 365 is so much more mature, this is the best path from our viewpoint

    Hi Raul,

We have reviewed your enhancement suggestion.

Based on the information provided, our understanding of your request is as follows:

You are requesting a way to support the ability for caseworkers to create and edit documents within the SPM application without the need for agencies to install specific software on each of the caseworker desktops, which can introduce operational problems to ensure the software functions as expected

The theme is aligned with our current strategy for our product to continue to make improvements to the infrastructure of the SPM application and we have accepted your suggestion as a consideration for a future release.

Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas with us. We are committed to involving our users in building our product roadmap and appreciate your suggestions.

    Thank you,

Sheryl Brenton, SPM Product Management Team
