Shape the future of Merative!

We invite you to shape the future of Merative, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the Merative team to refine your idea

Help Merative prioritize your ideas and requests

The Merative team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at Merative works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at Merative, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Curam 7.0.11 and above should provide support for AWS EKS

Case Management Information and Payrolling System (CMIPS) for the State of California has been running on Curam platform for more than a decade now.

CMIPS is a large and complex IT system due to the large number of recipients, providers, system end users, and interface partners.

The State of California has a vision to run CMIPS on a modern platform to provide users an intuitive, simple, and reliable user experience;
and an architecture to efficiently and quickly implement user- and regulatory-driven changes.

As a first step to achieve the above vision, the CMIPS Program embarked in July 2022 to migrate one Curam 7.0.11 Case Management Environment to AWS EKS environment. Based on the initial migration it is planned to migrate all Case Management environments to AWS.

The CMIPS program was able to demonstrate the initial cloud set up of the Curam Case Management Online Application in AWS utilizing EKS and Direct Login for Read-Only Transactions. Total of 194 screens were validated for Read-Only transactions (see attached spreadsheet for the list of screens that were validated)

CMIPS Program has also been able to integrate the new Curam environment in AWS with the batch jobs and validate the batch functionality.

Merative has indicated that Curam supports IBM Cloud Kubernetes Services (IKS) and Red Hat OpenShift on AWS (ROSA) distributions of Kubernetes only. EKS is not officially supported.

The CMIPS program has done a detailed analysis of the Pros and Cons of EKS vs. ROSA and is requesting Merative to provide support for Curam SPM Platform on AWS EKS (see section EKS vs ROSA - Pros & Cons in the attached file)

Customer Name Office of Systems Integration - State of California
Persona Based Summary

As a user of the Curam SPM in a large State of California program, the CMIPS program would want support for Curam on AWS EKS

Market Segment WH Cross-Segment

CMIPS is a large and complex IT system due to the large number of recipients, providers, system end users, and interface partners.

Cost comparison analysis between EKS and ROSA for all the CMIPS environments resulted in a huge difference; estimated $700 K annually for EKS vs ~ $5 Million/year for ROSA.

Usage frequency + #/type of users impacted

CMIPS is a large and complex IT system due to the large number of recipients, providers, system end users, and interface partners. CMIPS is used by social workers to track around 680,000 active recipient cases, and the provider management and payroll functions support around 590,000 providers statewide and ensures timely and accurate payroll payments of over $13 billion per year. CMIPS has approximately 6,000 end users across the fifty-eight (58) California counties, including the CDSS, the DHCS, and the OSI CMIPS office.

Cost comparison analysis between EKS and ROSA for all the CMIPS environments resulted in a huge difference; estimated $700 K annually for EKS vs ~ $5 Million/year for ROSA.

    Hi Sundar,

We have reviewed your enhancement suggestion.

Based on the information provided, our understanding of your request is as follows:

    • Support for SPM V7 on EKS

The theme is aligned with our current multi-year strategy, our Cloud roadmap is evolving as can be seen from our plans to introduce support for Azure Containers on V8 later this year, having previously only supported IKS or Openshift containerization. Since introducing this cloud support in V7 for IKS and Openshift we have continued to enhance support for Containerization making considerable enhancements to both performance and security in v8. Before we can confirm support for any combination of 3rd party products with our software, we must assure ourselves that the combination of products does not impact our product's Non-Functional Requirements (NFR). This NFR testing is time-consuming and labor-intensive which is why all enhancements are deployed to future code branches and not back ported to previous software versions.

Our published prerequisites do not indicate that we support Amazon EKS and state that for V7 the supported container configurations we support are IKS or Openshift. While we acknowledge that you were able to use the deployment scripts in your POC this does not in any way confirm that this deployment to EKS is supported.

We are in the process of reviewing our Cloud roadmap alongside our wider technology roadmap and only when that review is complete would we be able to indicate whether we would be looking to introduce support for Amazon EKS on version 8 of our software.

Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas with us. We are committed to involving our users in building our product roadmap and appreciate your suggestions.

    Thank you,

    SPM Product Management Team
